Heartwarming Small-Town Romances and Thrilling Mysteries

Hubby and I are late getting here, but we finally made the journey to the warm southern climes. We got out of South Dakota right before the snow and single digit temps hit. It was in the mid-60s when we got to our winter home. That’s the reason we do it. I have my ultra long, ultra thick coat is gathering dust in the closet. It hasn’t been outside the closet for four years.

When I came in the house, I noticed the dryer was running. Odd, huh? Our SIL was here a couple of weeks ago, so the first thing I thought of was he forgot to empty the dryer and those poor clothes are probably melted. I opened the dryer door and saw it had a load of clothes. To be kind, I’d fold them later after we got unpacked and organized enough to go to bed.

Not long after we got here, I got a phone call from one of my adopted grandsons asking where we were. I told him at the house and he seemed relieved. He was out front and seeing lights on in the house, was alarmed because he didn’t think anyone was supposed to be there. We hadn’t told anyone we were coming so we inadvertently scared him. After I assured him it was us, he said he came to get his laundry out of the dryer. Theirs had gone out and were using SIL’s dryer until theirs was repaired. We had a good laugh out of the whole situation.

One of the first things we have to accomplish after getting here is restocking the food supplies. The refrigerator is full of bottled water which may be helpful for dieters, but some of us need something more solid. Affordability, to use the current term, has certainly gone higher. My credit card was much weaker when we put our groceries in the truck.

We’re settling in for a long winter’s stay and hoping things go well this year. It will be our last here since SIL’s and Daughter’s house will be put on the market next spring. That doesn’t mean we won’t find someplace else to go or return here to new digs. Time, discussions, and options will be reviewed before making a decision. But then, one winter in South Dakota may help us make up our minds too.
