Ever have trouble sleeping? What do you do while you’re awake?
Occasionally I can’t sleep. It’s mostly due to eating or drinking something with caffeine too close to bedtime. Like 6 hours too close. I seem to be very sensitive to caffeine at night. If I eat chocolate after 4 p.m., the earliest I can get to sleep is 2 a.m., and I’m lucky if it’s that early. It doesn’t take much. One Oreo cookie kept me up most of the night one time. Tea or pop after 2 p.m. is a surefire way to keep me awake if we’re driving.
The other day in late afternoon, I forgot what time it was and ate the two double chocolate cookies Hubby gave me. I went to bed at the usual time but tossed and turned. I finally got up and got on the computer. The dark of night is usually a good time to write, but my muses were asleep. I picked up a book to read, but it’s not an edge-of-my-seat one so I set it aside. Only one alternative was left. I played games on my Kindle while I watched old TV programs. We recorded Perry Mason shows so I had a nice supply of them to watch. Later, Sea Hunt was on, a show from the late 1950s about a scuba diver starring a young Lloyd Bridges. Around 5 a.m., I finally felt sleepy.
I know I’m not the only one who can’t sleep. I’ve seen several posting on Facebook in the middle of the night. Once I had a chat with my nephew while he was in Afghanistan. It was amazing to think on the other side of the planet he was talking with me via the chat box. I enjoy chatting with others when they can’t sleep. If you see me posting something when I shouldn’t be, let’s talk.
What do you do when you can’t sleep? My problem isn’t insomnia; it’s lack of willpower when refusing chocolate or forgetting to check the clock. I need help in knowing what to do when I can’t drop off to sleep. Please don’t tell me to clean. I don’t like doing that even when it’s daytime. Doing it at night seems worse. Reading a good book is an excellent option. Without interruptions, reading is a great way to spend the time. I need to find a good book series to read when I’m up so if you have suggestions, I welcome them. Old TV shows and movies are fun to watch. Are there any good ones on Netflix that I haven’t found? Maybe I need a coloring book to work in while I watch TV. At least that’s productive.
Hubby falls asleep whenever he lies down. I wish we could all be that way. As long as we’re not, let’s use the time to do something we enjoy.
Sleep can be troublesome. Usually my mind is racing about a project I am in charge of. The only thing that helps is to get up and play mindless games. Being mindless evidently is the key. That, and prayer of course! So very sorry to hear about the chocolate woes. That’s a tough problem to have!
