The Delta strain of the Covid virus is rampaging so it’s mask time again. Hubby and I thought we were past this when we got the vaccine. We’re ready for some sense of normal to return.
I’ve never completely understood how the vaccination and wearing a mask became so politicized and demonized. This concerns public health which has no political or religious affiliation. The delta variant of Covid doesn’t care if you are Republican, Democrat, socialist, Nazi, Far Left, Far Right, or any other label. It’s a highly contagious germ that’s deadly and has no mercy on those that get it.
I’ve heard the excuses about why not to get vaccinated (it has a chip in it or makes you magnetic), or that the virus is really a conspiracy to turn us into a socialist country, or they’re taking away people’s rights. Millions of people have had the vaccine with only a few having serious reactions. The odds are good. Governments all over the world already track you so why bother with inserting a chip? If it was a conspiracy, every country has been fighting against and dying from it so who is conspiring against who? Consider the source of your information before swallowing it hook, line, and sinker.
I won’t argue about your rights. You have the right to get the virus if you want it, and test the patience of our health care providers. You have the right to get vaccinated or not. You have the right to think you know more than anyone else, especially the experts. You have the right to disagree with me. BUT you don’t have the right to give me the virus. Your rights end where my health begins. And that’s why we’re back to wearing masks again, the unvaccinated and vaccinated alike.
My sister works in a major hospital where Covid admissions are surging. She takes images of lungs that are wrecked by Covid and pneumonia. The doctors and nurses are frustrated and burnt out caring for people who aren’t following good advice. Their industry found a prevention for this plague but too many are ignoring it or turning it into something it’s not (political). It’s one thing to care for people who couldn’t help getting sick. It’s quite another caring for people who call them liars and reject prevention measures.
Lately I’ve thought a lot about when Jesus was tempted by Satan. At one point, Satan takes Jesus to the pinnacle of the temple and tells Jesus to throw himself off because God will send angels to save him. The answer Jesus gave was “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God’” quoting Deuteronomy 6:16.
Depending on God to save us in the midst of a pandemic without doing anything to help ourselves is tempting the Lord. Some march around saying the Lord will protect them. Could God save us from this pestilence? Absolutely! But if Jesus wouldn’t tempt God to save him, why are we tempting him by not doing anything? Why dare God to save us when we could save ourselves?
The thing is, humans don’t get to make the rules for this virus, but they can make rules to help preserve life, like getting the vaccinations, wearing masks, avoiding large gatherings, and so on. These rules are not meant to aggravate or take away rights but to protect life, health, and the pursuit of happiness. While none of the prevention measures will keep you safe from Covid with100 percent guarantee, they will greatly reduce the likelihood you’ll get it. If we all work together, maybe we can put this whole Covid thing behind us. It’ll be the end of the masking and staying apart.
I don’t want to wear a mask again, but I’ll do it for the sake of others. Even the vaccinated can get and spread the virus, and I don’t want to do that. If I, the vaccinated, wears a mask, then so should the unvaccinated. It’s them I’m hoping to spare from this dreadful virus.
Let each of you look out not only on his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Philippians 2:4
Thank you. That is how I feel but haven’t been able to get it across to others as you have.
I think part of it is people have love of self and not love for others.
Agreed.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Yup.
