Heartwarming Small-Town Romances and Thrilling Mysteries

I made an hour-long drive yesterday and left the radio turned off because it felt good to think. Sometimes music disrupts my thinking, sometimes it doesn’t bother me. It rarely helps. I try not to think too deeply while I’m driving for safety reasons, but I still allow my mind to wander close by.

I like being alone with my thoughts and talking to myself mentally. My imagination is so big that I’m soon lost in thoughts and daydreams and past experiences that I wish I’d handled a different way. Self-hypnosis is not much of a problem because I can truly get lost in a mental place. Do you ever do that?

Think and wonder, wonder and think. Dr. Seuss

I think in pictures mostly, like watching a movie with people, things, and animals passing through with conversations and music sometimes. In my mind I have a beautiful singing voice and I’m not afraid to sing in front of others. I’m also much thinner, younger, and beautiful there too. It’s a great place to be.

That must be why I find it easy to make up stories. My imaginative mind is vivid, in color, and wanders easily around scenarios and what-ifs. Another word for it is daydreaming which I’ve done all my life. If I don’t want to be doing something, I daydream while I do it. It takes me away from the drudgery.

Everyone has their own method of thinking. Some people think in words only. People may think in music only. The dyslectic, I’ve read, think three-dimensionally. They can see things from every angle, know how to break it down, and put it back together. Einstein was dyslexic which explains why he saw the universe in a new way. He imagined riding a ray of light and how it might look speeding along. He used what some people term a disability to make new discoveries.

Oh, the thinks you can think if only you try! Dr. Seuss

What you allow your mind to envision and what you feed it is key in how you live. If your mind is good, it will reflect in your life. If it is evil, you’ll reap what’s in your heart.

That’s why it’s important to be mindful of what you feed your mind. You can’t unsee what you see and read. You can’t unhear what you hear. Once it’s in your mind, it’s there to stay. Make sure to filter what you feed your mind. Restrict it to only the good stuff and it will show in your life. Garbage in, garbage out. Good things in, good things out.

Many years ago, I read some people play loud music because they don’t like to think. They can’t stand being alone with their thoughts. Maybe they haven’t spent enough time listening to themselves think. Or maybe it’s a way to push away a conscious telling them not to do what they’re doing. I have no idea. Do you like to hear your thoughts?

Isn’t it fascinating that one of our gifts is how we think? How do you think?

Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23

Be still and know that I am God Psalm 46:10
