Heartwarming Small-Town Romances and Thrilling Mysteries

My son and grandsons visited us for two weeks while our daughter-in-law visited her parents in China. The time went by fast mostly because we stayed busy almost the whole time. Hubby and I don’t get to see our grandsons often, so we try to make the most of it when we do.

Grandson A is eleven years old, going on twenty-five. He’s super intelligent (I’m not bragging, ask anyone who knows him) and determined to be a doctor someday. When Daughter and Son-in-law visited, she cut her finger, and he instantly jumped into action. He got out his first aid kit and told her to have a seat. He commenced to clean the wound and bandage it. It wasn’t a big cut but that didn’t matter. He diagnosed a spot on my hand as a blood blister and said it would fade in time. He’s not only a pre-doctor, he’s also a computer whiz. He helped our neighbor connect her phone’s Bluetooth function to their car radio, then went inside and played her baby grand piano for her. He also helped Hubby with his computer a time or two. On the last day they were here, he designed a financial plan for himself that would rival any grownup’s budget. I don’t think there’s much he can’t do other than tolerate his onery younger brother.

Eight years old, Grandson B is a lively one with a vivid imagination that has no end. While he’s also very intelligent, his is more focused on things dealing with Star Wars and Mine Craft. The remote to our TV became his laser gun as he fought all kinds of imaginary bad guys in our house. He has a dowel fixed up like a light saber that he wields like a trained Jedi that he spins around and spins around himself with amazing skill. He educated me about Teddy Roosevelt and what he did when he was President. Rocks are intriguing to him too. Hubby’s rockhound sister took him out looking for some and shared part of her stash with him. He was thrilled and gently packaged them for the trip home.

We spent time at the local tourist draws, Bear Country and Reptile Gardens. We had two wienie roasts with campfires at the lake, they went hiking and biking with their dad and grandpa, and we spent a lot of time in the HOA pool. All but once, we were the only ones there and had a grand time playing in the cool water.

By the time they left for home, Hubby and I were exhausted in a very good way. My credit card was smoking, but I’m glad it did its job so well. Time with them is too precious to worry about anything else.
