Heartwarming Small-Town Romances and Thrilling Mysteries

Hubby and I traveled to College Station and Texas A&M to see Daughter and SIL last weekend. She had a short break in her very busy schedule and wanted us to come share it with her.

The weather was beautiful, and the bluebonnets were blooming in the area. Something is always going on campus. This particular weekend, it was a baseball game and a regionwide science fair, but with only two days to spend with Daughter, we spent our time taking a tour of her lab and seeing her research results. Her dummies were shot up, the vests still had dents in them, and we held a heavy 44-caliber bullet that was smashed against one. She had us try on sample armor vests which were like wearing a really heavy girdle on your upper torso. Her research resulted in unexpected findings that should benefit a lot of women warriors as they work to protect us.

We also toured their lot in a subdivision between College Station and Milano where SIL teaching school. What struck me most were the birds singing. The trees were full of songbirds in the throes of spring. Such a beautiful noise! I could have stood there all morning listening to them. Their lot is surround by a ring of trees with a large meadow in the middle. Whether they build there or not, it’s a great investment property and the prettiest one in the subdivision.

The church we attended on Sunday is the one that I went to when I was born. The congregation has met in several buildings since then, but congregation remains. The older members remember my folks and me as a little girl. Some of them, we played together as children outside the building while we waited on our parents to finish visiting after church. It was a strange feeling seeing that far into my past.

On our way to and from College Station, we stopped at Buc-ees several times. They have become a favorite place to stop. I love them because they have the fountain drink of Arizona Green Tea with ginger and honey, my favorite. They also have delicious BBQ brisket sandwiches and homemade chips. We’ll be missing that when we have to go home. Overall, we had a wonderful time thanks to Daughter and SIL.
