After a slight delay in our plans, Hubby and I finally reached our summer home. At this point in time, it may become our year-round home since our winter home is being put on the market (great house for those looking for a place in Amarillo!). For me, it’s comforting to be in my own home where my stuff is. It’s like getting a teddy bear back that you missed holding.
A couple of days after we got here, the temperatures were in the low 80s which is my perfect temperature. The next morning, we woke up to snow on the deck. The temperatures were just below the freezing point, so the snow was wet and very welcome. A wildfire was burning south of town when we returned. I hope this moisture put it out and all the others that were causing problems. We’re in a severe drought zone and any moisture, rain or snow, is welcome.
With the snow came Hubby’s desire to be somewhere south of here next winter. We don’t know where yet, but he’s working hard on finding an option. Seems his blood thinned quite a bit during our four years of being snowbirds, and he’s constantly chilled when there’s snow outside.
For me, I loved the chill in the air. My warm coat made it comfortable for me to be outdoors when we took some of my books to a local bookstore to restock their supplies. I could have danced in it had my back pain not been so bothersome. The cool felt very good to me. Guess my blood is still thick.
That’s something I noticed between our summer and winter residences. Those down south are cold at temperatures most northerners find comfortable. Southerners find summer heat waves enjoyable where northerners would melt or die. I can’t function in 90-degree heat, much less endure it when it’s over 100. I’d rather be in -20 degrees than 100-degree heat. The people up north love the cool weather, saying they can always put enough clothes on to keep warm but can’t take enough off to be cool. Makes sense to me. I have two very warm coats for winter. One is like a sleeping bag I can walk in. Give me wool socks, boots, and I’m ready to get out. We have heated seats and a heated steering wheel for driving. What more do you need?
No matter how you feel about the weather, isn’t it nice that God made temperature zones that suits all our wants and needs. We adapt to where we live and love it there. Our only problem is which one of Hubby and I will get our way in choosing what to do next winter? Go south for warmth or enjoy the cold up north? Come winter, we’ll both find out.
For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him and for Him: and He is before all things, and by Him all things consist. Colossians 1:16-17
